On the morning of March 15th, the "9+1" Nine Western Universities of Architecture Teaching Union in 2021 joint graduation design and "Zhongsheng Cup" design competition, which was initiated by the School of Architecture of Chang 'an University, officially opened in the Chang’an campus of Northwest University. This event was hosted by the School of Urban and Environment, Northwestern University, co-organized by the Integrated Reconstruction Management Committee of Daxing New District (Tumen Region), Lianhu District, sponsored Shaanxi Zhongsheng Planning and Design Research Institute. This competition has a total of more than 160 teachers and students from the 11th universities of the western region to participate, surrounding thedesign theme "the place, the man, the dialogue - Han Chang 'an ancient and modern civilization etiquette, protecting and renovating construction site area planning and design", jointly explore new ideas and new methods for protection and renewal planning and design in Han Chang'an City ritual architecture site area.

At the opening meeting, Xi Jiami, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Northwest University, and Yu Kaihua, vice head school of the School of Architecture of Chang 'an University, delivered speeches successively. The opening meeting was presided over by Professor Song Jinxi and Professor Quan Dongji from School of Urban and Environment of Northwest university.
In his speech, Xi Jiami hoped that students could take the renewal of historical buildings as catalyst to inherit historical culture, build the memory of industrial civilization, create beautiful urban space, and contribute their strength to the development of the city. He expressed that he believed that with the joint efforts of all of us, this activity will surely bear fruitful results and further promote the exchange of teaching experience and the improvement of teaching quality of architectural majors.
Mr Yu delivered a speech on both the "review" and "outlook" aspects. He hopes the students can protect and make good use of the rich historical heritage, and look forward to seeing the enthusiasm, dedication, creativity and responsibility of the students in the design.

Xi 'an Daxing district (Tumen Region) party working committee, management committee, director of the office of party and government Bai Lipeng, northwestern university, senior planner Lv Nan, Zhang Jiangman, senior engineer of Xi’an Planning Instituterespectively gave detailed explanations and interpretations on the progress of urban renewal in Daxing New District (Tumen Region), the joint completion mission statement and the comprehensive renovation strategic plan for Tumen area. Bai Lipeng introduced the basic situation of the topic selection base of the joint graduation project and its surrounding land, and hoped to find a breakthrough to realize the activation and utilization of cultural relic resources, speed up the urban renewal process, and explore and provide better ideas and suggestions. Lv Nan made a detailed interpretation of the task book of this joint graduation project from the two chapters of "that person, that thing, that place" and "dialogue between ancient and modern civilizations", and explained the purpose of the topic selection. Zhang Jiangman introduced the strategic planning of the comprehensive reconstruction of Tumen area from the aspects of land, function, layout, space, transportation, history and culture, scale and start-up, which further improved the students' overall understanding and understanding of the project base.
The "9+1" joint graduation project in western China is jointly held by the teaching union of architecture majors of nine universities in western China and the magazine "The Planner". Nine schools in western union construction class specialized teaching by Chang’an University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Sichuan University, Xi 'An Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Northwestern University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Xinjiang University and Yunnan University (in no particular order) according to the principle of "voluntary, equality, win-win" joint creation, Xihua University and Lanzhou University of Science and Technology to join. With the goal of improving the teaching quality of architecture majors, the Alliance is committed to promoting the innovation and upgrading of design, building a platform for cooperation and exchange between industry, academia and research, expanding professional exchanges between universities, and selecting excellent design talents.
According to the characteristics of architecture majors, the joint graduation design activities will be conducted in the form of centralized research, mixed grouping, on-site teaching and centralized defense. After the opening ceremony, teachers and students from 11 schools went to Sinosteel Group Xi’an Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Precision Community and Zaoyuan Metallurgical Community to conduct on-site surveys and community surveys to learn about the historical evolution, current status of the factory and the needs of old community reconstruction, Willingness and other basic information. After the survey, the teachers and students will compile the survey results in each discussion room according to the list of mixed groups on 16th, and the teachers will conduct on-site guidance and discussion, and the opening report will be made on 17th March.
